Pecan Pralines Recipe {Guest Post}: Day 16 of The 100-Day Countdown to Christmas

Today’s Pecan Pralines Recipe feature is a guest post I think you will really enjoy (we’ve featured several of Jerri’s recipes previously in this series!):

Hi. My name is Jerri, and I’m from the blog Simply Sweet Home, which features recipes, crafts, decor, product reviews, and other ideas to help make your home a “simply sweet” home.

I’m really excited to be guest posting here today for the 100-Day Countdown to Christmas. Today I’m sharing my recipe for Pecan Pralines. Â My mom makes these every year at Christmas time, and they are always a big hit! Hope you enjoy!

Recipe for Pecan Pralines

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/4 cups pecan halves
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Assembly Instructions:
  1. Rolled out waxed paper, parchment paper, or greased cookie sheet.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, white sugar and milk. Bring to a boil.
  3. Stir in butter, pecans and vanilla. Heat, without stirring, to between 234 and 240 degrees F (112 to 116 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from the water and placed on a flat surface.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool 5 minutes. Beat until thickened, then pour immediately onto prepared surface and let rest until firm and completely cool before cutting.

A great gift idea:
When we check out books at our local library, there’s usually one or two each time that we end up reading over and over again before returning them. Today’s gift idea, The Trouble with Cauliflower, by Jane Sutton, was one such book:

It’s a cute story with a message we parents are always trying to impart to our children! Perhaps the message will be better received coming from a different messenger.
