The Chef and I have never been fans of guacamole. I’m honestly not sure I’ve ever even tasted it! I don’t know. I guess it’s never appealed to me visually, or maybe it reminded me too much of ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard texture wise.
I’ve just never really had a desire to give it a try. It’s odd because I’m usually willing to give most things a try, but there are a few textures and smells that will turn me completely off to a food.
It’s all about flavor combinations
Sometime during my college years as I became an adult, I also became health conscious, so when I started learning in the past few years how healthy avocado is, my heart began to open some to it. Since learning more through The Chef about flavors and how some flavors when combined with others actually taste great, I knew I might be able to give avocado a fair shake. ‘
I asked The Chef to create some recipes using avocado, and I found some salads that included it. I found that while I am not particularly fond of the flavor of avocado on its own, I definitely enjoy it with other flavors!
Just a few weeks (and posts!) ago, I made and shared an avocado dip recipe. It also included pear, and it was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised.
The adult part of me understands and wants to eat things like avocado that are so healthy and good for me, and I have no trouble being an adult about foods that aren’t necessarily my favorites. It’s the ones with textures and/or flavors that I really don’t care for that I have trouble with. So it has been wonderful finding flavor combinations with avocado that I enjoy eating!
Health Benefits of Avocado
Here are three reasons why everyone who values good health should eat more avocado:
- Its antioxidant oleic acid helps lower your LDL cholesterol levels and raise the HDL.
- The potassium in it helps regulate blood pressure; and
- It is great for the skin because it has chemicals that stimulate the production of collagen.

And if you are one of those who cannot get enough of avocado (have you seen the avocado ice cream recipes?), you will love the Avocados from Mexico Cafe Press store! In fact, I’m pretty fond of this cute Avocado Fiesta Serving Tray myself:
