A new family-favorite recipe
This Easter treats recipe was a winner in more ways than one for us. Holidays can be difficult due to our food sensitivities. And while we are not big sweet eaters, I’m a firm believer in not completely depriving oneself. We like to make our own whenever possible as well.
When I saw this easy bark recipe and checked the ingredients, I knew we could adapt it to our needs, and I always like easy. It also was a good one for involving the Well-Fed Kids. We made it for Family Time this weekend, a new family tradition we have started on the weekends. The first one was such a hit they have begun talking regularly about Family Time and look forward to it each week.
The kids loved helping!
The Chef melted the bark and spread it onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Then we let the kids help drop the candies onto the melted bark. They really enjoyed doing this. We put it into the refrigerator to cool while we watched some of a movie. We checked on the bark about 30 minutes into the movie, and it was ready.
So we broke it up into small pieces and tasted it. Anything besides chocolate peanut butter, cheesecake, Oreos, and apple or key lime pie I’m usually not all that crazy about. The Chef thought it was a little rich… the kids loved it.
Recipe: Easy Bark Recipe
Adapted from Recipe by The Miracle Momma
Ingredients
- Vanilla almond bark
- Candies (M&Ms, Reece Pieces and other small candies should work best)
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Line cookie sheet with wax paper.
- Melt vanilla almond bark in microwave per package instructions.
- Pour melted bar onto cookie sheet and spread evenly.
- Drop candies onto melted bark and sprinkle the sprinkles.
- Allow to cool in refrigerator approximately 30 minutes. Check to make sure bark is hardened, then break into pieces. Store in airtight container.
Quick notes
We are not able to use chocolate, so we used Reece Pieces eggs. The regular sized Reece Pieces would have worked better. These came off easily when breaking apart.
Variations
Can use colored candy melts if you want to add some color to the bark.
Easily adapted for different holidays by changing types of candies used.
