The Freshman 15 and How to Avoid Gaining It on @BlogTalkRadio

To be in college again… or not!

I have to be honest… I am a little envious of college-bound freshman! College was truly some of the best years of my life.

But what I don’t envy? The studying! I did well in college but would not want to go through all of the studying, boring core class lectures, etc. again. I wouldn’t be as concerned this time about “The Freshman 15″ … and I will tell you why in the show (see below)!

Personal Stories

Chef John, myself and Valerie will be sharing our personal “Freshman 15″ experiences and we will welcome callers at the end of the show, as time permits to share their stories.

We have one special guest caller who will share her story that you do not want to miss. Her name is Angelique, and here is her before/after picture, which shows on the left how she looked in college and then on the right how she looks now after transforming herself after college:

She now is a personal trainer who helps people “create a fit, healthy lifestyle with the ultimate goal of increasing health awareness, improving energy levels, productivity and overall quality of life.” You can read more about her and her services on her website: AngeliqueMillis.com.

Another “Freshman 15″ story comes from David Bakke, Editor at Money Crashers Personal Finance and Internet Reselling Business Owner:

I attended Bowling Green State University during my freshman year and I eventually graduated with a Liberal Arts degree from the University of South Florida.

I gained roughly 25 pounds during my freshman year and I attribute that mostly to the campus meal plan. When I lived at home, my parents always made sure that we all ate a very healthy and nutritious diet. There just weren’t a lot of junk foods in my household. But once I went off to school, I found that the majority of the food served at the campus cafeteria just wasn’t very healthy. The menus consisted of a lot of meat options, fried foods, and desserts that contained a lot of fat.

Of course, some of it had to do with my personal choices as well. I definitely fell into the temptation of eating a lot of those foods that weren’t that good for me. I also got away from my exercise routine, something my parents also placed a high priority on.

Weight was not an issue for me before I attended school. Based on that experience during my freshman year when I gained so much weight, since then I have always committed to eating a healthy diet. If I had known how much weight you can gain by eating an unhealthy diet and not exercising, it definitely would have made a difference.

You have the knowledge and tools you need to avoid the Freshman 15 weight gain if you have read this post, listened to the show and grabbed your Survival Kit. Don’t become one of the four to gain that weight!

Absolutely enjoy yourself and eat well, and even indulge on occasion, but strive to be the healthiest YOU you can be so that when you graduate, you will not then have to be focusing on getting into better shape in addition to the stresses of finding a job and beginning a career and possibly other new exciting chapters of your life!

Leave us a comment and let us know your thoughts! Have you thought about the Freshman 15 and how you will avoid it or was this a first for you? If you’ve been to college, what was your experience with the Freshman 15?
