Mission Detailed Report
Several years ago at The Well-Fed Son’s routine annual checkup, I mentioned to his pediatrician while discussing his potty training progress that he was still needed diapers at night. It seemed like this was not going to be changing any time soon. Her response was, “It would not surprise me if you brought him in at 10 years old and he was still wetting the bed. It’s common for it to go on for that long.”
[Note: In preparation for this post, I discovered this is consistent with what the Mayo Clinic says about bedwetting as well, for any readers who would like to do further reading!]
I knew at that point that we were probably going to be buying night time diapers or pull-ups for some time. Now we are at 6.5 years old and still no end in sight. If he drinks too much too close to bedtime, we still experience leaking!
So when I was approached about the opportunity to participate in a special undercover mission with GoodNites, I was all ears! The pull-ups we’d been using had been irritating the inside of his upper thighs. He struggles off and on with eczema and his poor skin is just so sensitive. So the chance to try something new was more than welcome.
When the sample package arrived, we opened them up, and he loved the Spiderman design. He wanted to wear them that night!
But we had to practice some patience and wait until the undercover mission special instructions arrived. It is hard for an adult to wait for a new fun and exciting experience. So you know it’s even harder for a 6.5 year old boy! But wait he did, and the time finally came for the mission to begin.
Night 1
At bedtime, we opened the sample package and pulled out one of the underwear-style pull-ups. He put them on and said they felt great! He is small for his age, so it is challenging to find anything that really fits well. So if they feel good and aren’t irritating him, big win. Check one.
We had him drink his last sip of water, read a bedtime story, said prayers, exchanged goodnight hugs and kisses, then with his little sister, used the potty one last time and I tucked them into bed. The next morning, dry sheets! Check two.
[Note: We had already adjusted the bedtime routine, having learned that it’s best to have him drink that last sip of water early in the bedtime routine instead of last, hoping that by the time the routine is near the end and we have him use the potty just before tucking into bed, we will get as much out as possible before saying good night!]
Night 2
Same routine, same results! Check three.
Night 3
Same routine, same results! Check four!
Final summary
Mission completed with super results. Happy mom, happy son. Check five.
Recommendation: All parents with children battling bedwetting should give GoodNites Underwear a try, and those reading this report should share it with friends who have children struggling with this common childhood experience!
